Chatswood Education Precinct

The NSW Department of Education have announced plans for the redevelopment of Chatswood Public School and Chatswood High School. The new facilities will be known as the Chatswood Education Precinct.

All the primary classes of Chatswood Public School will move to the high school site in Centennial Avenue which they will share with high school classes 7 – 9. This will create a campus of some 2,700 students.

High school classes 10, 11 and 12 will move to the current Public School site on the Pacific Highway accommodating around 500 students.

This is estimated as a $20m project with new four-storey buildings across the two sites. This will include new classrooms, laboratories, libraries, canteen, multi-purpose hall and administration building.

It is reported that the development has been designed with the future in mind.

It would appear that the proposed changes would lessen the likelihood of convincing the Department of Education to purchase the building next to Chatswood Public School on the Pacific Highway for the expansion of that site.

The much loved ‘Gumnut’ Cellars has returned to 3 Millwood Avenue, Chatswood West. Recently re-opening as “Gumnut Cellars and Grocers” the new operators have adopted and expanded on the successful model developed by successful previous operator Terry Hill. Gone is the ‘Gourmet‘ food approach that did not prove popular, particularly to the passing trade. A traditional take-away Australian menu has been re-instated.

The grocery section seems to have been expanded, also with the addition of common household utility items.

There is still a good range of liquor and soft drink products.

The new store is airy and freshly renovated with excellent lighting and new shelving allowing for a eye-catching array of products.

The new operators are friendly and willing to please. They are keen to hear your ideas on what sort of products you would like them to stock.

Gumnut Cellars & Grocers are open 7 days a week. 

This proposal is for a large development on Council land adjacent to the Garden of Remembrance. It will soon go before the Sydney Northern Planning Panel – see details below.
