Council Officer’s have recommended that Advisory Committees continue until the end of the current Council term but be dissolved at the beginning of the ‘caretaker period’.
Then Committees to be re-established with people who can provide technical advice to Council and with a more restrictive focus.
Councillors were asked to move that Committees be involved in developing the fine detail of the framework, policies and terms of reference over the next few months. However, this did not occur.
The outcome was that current committees continue to end of this Council term. Next term they are to be re-established as technical advisory committees. Technical advisors will be required to possess expert knowledge and expert skills to work with data and evidence. People with local opinions and knowledge can join a Reference Group. Reference Groups will meet at the whim of Council Officers and respond to issues rather than having the opportunity to proactively engage with issues.
