Road safety

An analysis of the safety performance in Willoughby Local Government Area (LGA) for the period 2015 – 2018 reveals that there is a decreasing trend in the number of injury crashes over this period. Crash self-reporting, including self-reported injuries began in October 2014, preventing the use of earlier data in this analysis.

Traffic management and road safety behaviour campaigns play an important role in improving road user safety. Direction provided by the Road Safety Plan 2021 and collaboration with Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW), including the joint employment
of a Road Safety Officer, has demonstrated road safety benefits to Willoughby. TfNSW’s aspirational target is zero fatalities and serious injuries on our roads by 2056.

TfNSW’s Road Safety Plan 2021 provides the direction and key focus areas for road safety in New South Wales. This strategy is utilised by Council as its primary platform for road safety in Willoughby City Council (WCC).
