The State Government is proposing to consolidate existing housijng legislation including for Affordable Rental, Seniors Housi9ng and Affordable Housing. The legislation will also include short-term rental accomodation and social housing provisions. There is new style of housing termed ‘co-living’, a form that provides small private rooms, possibly with kitchen and bathroom faciliities (so a higher density of living). Changes are also proposed for boarding houses.
The reasons igiven for the changes include to facilitate the delivery of more diverse and affordable housing types. and to ensure that the home building sector is well-placed to assist the economic recovery of NSW following the COVID-19 pandemic.
There is concern that economic imeratives will override existing community protections.
