The amalgamation conversation continues. The State Government is about to announce the biggest shake-up of local councils in many years.
Whilst there is still no talk (yet) of forced amalgamations,i t is likely that the government will offer financial incentives to Councils who are prepared to grapple with the problem.
An interesting aside to this conversation is to remember that when Willoughby Council was first formed it included all of the area of current Lane Cove. At the time that Lane Cove ‘de-amalgamated’ with Willoughby there was also a short-lived proposal for the West Ward to cut loose as well.
