Council elections
Council elections will be held on Saturday 4th September 2021.
Bicycle path
Issues seem to have emerged in relation to proposed changes to the bicycle path at the intersection of Millwood Ave and Fullers Rd West near Lowanna Park. Evidently changes were made to a driveway that make the transition dangerous. Council has plans for rectifying the situation but no funds.
Synthetic grass
The state government is undertaking a review of the use of synthetic grass on playing fields. Issues of concern have been the surface temperatures and environmental pollution.
Caltex servo
Caltex servo Pacific Highway:
DA-2021/47 for new signage lodged due to conversion to Ampol.
Pedestrian amenity Pacific H’way.
It is proposed that Willoughby City Council develops a strategy for, and provides funding to improve the amenity, streetscapes an footpaths, with tree planting and vegetation, within WCC, along Pacific Highway between Boundary Road and St. Leonards.
The Council Officers’ response: Given the significant shortfalls of revenue arising from the impacts of COVID-19, it is recommended that Council consider any request for new or expanded funding in the context of its overall financial position as part of the Operational Plan and Budget process for 2021/22.
Road safety
An analysis of the safety performance in Willoughby Local Government Area (LGA) for the period 2015 – 2018 reveals that there is a decreasing trend in the number of injury crashes over this period. Crash self-reporting, including self-reported injuries began in October 2014, preventing the use of earlier data in this analysis.

Traffic management and road safety behaviour campaigns play an important role in improving road user safety. Direction provided by the Road Safety Plan 2021 and collaboration with Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW), including the joint employment
of a Road Safety Officer, has demonstrated road safety benefits to Willoughby. TfNSW’s aspirational target is zero fatalities and serious injuries on our roads by 2056.
TfNSW’s Road Safety Plan 2021 provides the direction and key focus areas for road safety in New South Wales. This strategy is utilised by Council as its primary platform for road safety in Willoughby City Council (WCC).
Electric charging
Council is proposing to install two electric vehicle charging points in Railway Street. Whilst the charging would be free people would need to pay a 1H parking fee to use the facilities.
We have suggested that Council consider waiving the nparking fee for an initial mperiod to encourage the use of the facilities.
